Hello! It's been awhile since we last updated our page. Over the last month we didn't get much accomplished. Melina's competition cheer season was ending, Ally was starting softball practices everyday after school, and my competition season had just begun in the middle of February. We were not provided with much class time to work on our project, so we brainstormed in the meantime. Recently we started adding our pictures to the Smithsonian Learning Lab. We uploaded around fifteen pictures to create different galleries. We came up with five categories; uniforms, Klein's, everyday use, school, and coal mines. We are planning on adding information and annotations to all of the pictures we added on the Smithsonian website. Our spring break is this coming week (March 18-22) so we are going to meet up with the museum owners to talk to them a little bit more and take one more glance around.

Hello! I'm so glad you're back! This week has been full of picture taking and learning about our museum. Last Thursday on January 31st, we met with the owners of the museum. Sharon and John lead us through the halls and up the stairs. They told us a little bit about the building, and some town history. We spoke with them about our intentions for the project. Our English teacher even met us at the museum to help grasp a deeper understanding of the backstory of our project. As we walked around, I took some pictures of some things that caught my eye. I got several shots of interesting things and we will be working on uploading those to the Smithsonian Learning Lab. While we are also putting our pictures on there, we are thinking about creating another tab on our website to upload a few pictures.
Hi there! I'm so glad you're back. This week has been very eventful! On Thursday we typed up our email and hit send. We had our English teacher glance over it and we also included him in our email. Later that night, the owners had responded to us. We are going to meet at the museum on January 24. During this time we will introduce ourselves and start working. Hopefully, they will have lots to inform us about. While at the museum, my roll is to take photos of the many different things inside. I am really excited about this because it is going to strengthen my knowledge in photography and give me an opportunity to test out different controls on my camera. Since we are waiting on the day to arrive, we decided to get a feel for the online gallery, where we will preserve all of the pictures. Our teacher showed us the Smithsonian Learning Lab website.
Time is flying by, and it is officially 2019. With it being a new year, we have decided to set some goals for our project. But, before I get into that, I want to reflect on what has been happening in 2018 to now. We started the project running with multiple ideas, but as we kept going we knew that there was something out there with a greater need. After talking with our teacher we decided to help out our historical museum. Right now we are in the process of setting a date with the owner. During the month of December we had conflicts and had to move the date to a new one. We have solely been working together on this, and don't really have any individual roles. We've come up with goals and ways we need to progress. We've found out information such as ways to get in contact with people, and even worked through to find dates that we are all free. Our presentation date will be on April 30th, which will come sooner than we think. As we gather more information about our museum, we want to be able to open another tab for an online gallery. The gallery will include photographs and information of the artifacts from our small town. I'm getting excited about these upcoming weeks because we will be working with the owner to get these pictures uploaded!
Happy Monday everyone! I'm back with another blog for the website. Our class was not required to make a post about this previous week, but I just thought I would give you guys some brief information about what has been happening. So to start off with, my group has been in touch with the people in charge of our museum. We have come up with several dates where all three of us are free. Right now we are giving the owner time, as family conflicts occurred. But some good news is that I visited the Bethalto Historic Museum this weekend at our annual Christmas Walk! Enjoy this (low quality) picture of me standing in front of the museum.
This week has been a little slow, but also somewhat chaotic. With us coming up with a new project idea, we are having troubles calling the right phone number to get started. The museum is only open for 2 hours on Wednesday and Friday. This has made it hard for us considering we are in school during those days and at those times. Yesterday we decided we needed to put a foot down and try to call. The few numbers we had called never answered. Our next step is to get guidance from our teacher to help us get the right number to start getting the pictures uploaded on our blog. Hey there! I'm back with my second blog. Over the last several days it had been heavy on my heart that there was a greater need in our community. Not saying that our other idea wasn't good, but that we could be doing something more reasonable and beneficial. So, we talked to our teacher and he helped us come up with the idea of partnering with our museum to document the things inside the building. We think that we want to take pictures of the things in the museum and put them on our blog, to inform people about the Bethalto history. We think that this will be important to our community, because the average person only visits the museum during the annual Christmas walk.
An obstacle that we might have, is how we are going to categorize the different items in the museum on our website. Right now, our next step is to contact the museum about our idea. The Bethalto Museum is only opened on Wednesday's and Friday's at 10 am to noon. This will cause us to kick it into high gear to get what we need done. Hopefully they won't shut us down, so we don't have to come up with a whole new idea, again. I think that our project will be interesting to the crowd we present to, because it is a chance to tell them about the small village they live in.
